Strings 4 - Instrumental Tanpura
Sometimes one may find wounded strings on a small instrumental tanpura. I’m personally not fond of the small instrumental tanpuras because of the far inferior sound quality. However, although the wound string has its drawbacks, the lower octaves are more easily reached. This does create a deeper and warmer sound than the thin traditional strings. Please note that it is possible to use jiva on a wound string and therefore the jiwari must be made with this in mind.
