This fabulous sitar was built in Baroda, Gujarat by Shomabhai Bapulal Mistry in 1910. Exquisitely decorated and displaying elaborate designs on the tuning pegs and leaves makes this extraordinary sitar a feast for the eyes. With old style fretting from that time, tied with gut, and old taraf eyelets one can almost here it singing. To top it off, the bridge is beautifully made, ribbed legs and delicate edging makes it unique.
The label is highly ornate and in looking at the design for the company stamp the proud owners of Mansukh Raghunath harmonium maker, which was the early name for B.C. Mistry & sons of Baroda. It displays the gold medal won in 1904 from the Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition of the Indian National Congress.
